Slate Mining in Sussex County
Hill Memorial 82 Main Street, Newton, NJ, United StatesSussex County Historian, Wayne McCabe will discuss the history of Sussex County Slate Quarries. Most of New Jersey Slate is found along the base of the Kittatinny Mountains in Sussex and Warren County. It was primarily quarried for roofing materials. Many of our Sussex County historic structures are adorned with slate roofs.
